The Voyage of Alexus Young, MHA, RHIA

Alexus Young, MHA, RHIA. has been in healthcare since her college career began at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. There she studied in the Nursing and Health Sciences program that offered an elite education with hands-on Professional Practice Experiences and Management Internships at leading healthcare institutions.

Alexus secured a work-study position at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Wellness Center as a dedicated front desk administrator and physician's assistant. During clinical practice, Alexus completed her Health Information Management (HIM)Professional Practice Experience at several notable health systems Including Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA, The University Medical Center in New Orleans Louisiana, Iberia Gastrointerolgy in New Iberia, LA and Acadiana's Women's Health Group in Lafayette, LA.

After successfully completing the HIM clinical practice experience, Alexus received her Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential days before she walked across the stage to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Allied Health Professions with a focus in Health Information Management and a minor in Healthcare Informatics.

Currently Alexus now works directly with Emergency Department Health Information Management Specialist for over 13 of Ochsner Health systems Emergency Departments and critical access hospitals. Ochsner Health System is one of the largest health systems in Southern Louisiana. After 6 years in her role as an HIM Specialist, Alexus went back to get her Master's Degree from The University of Maryland Global Campus in Healthcare Administration. Her dream has been to start her own Healthcare Consulting business to bridge the gap between care providers, payers, and patients. Alexus has comprehensive knowledge of medical, administrative, ethical, and legal requirements and standards related to healthcare delivery and the privacy of protected patient information. 

Alexus is eager to navigate through healthcare obstacles that are faced in multiple settings in the healthcare industry, including hospitals, multispecialty clinics, physician practices, long-term care, mental health, and other ambulatory care settings in the Louisiana and Texas healthcare populations.
